The universe is full of wonder and surprise. Every day, every year, we - as humans - are reminded how small but powerful we are. How much of the future we hold in our palms, how impressive our foot prints can be. We are never simple, always complicated and always dynamic. The universe, the earth, the land, it shapes up and it molds us. We are a part of this world, from our core to the energy that surrounds us.
Doug and I, we have always related to tumbleweeds, they roam, they collect and deposit treasures as they go, they are free and wild, no path, no direction, no reason or rhyme. That's where the name of our business came from, and it has been our connection to the earth. But after 5 years of just winging it, we've changed, we've grown. We've emotionally outgrown our connection to tumbling tumbleweeds.
Last week, we changed our DBA, bought a new domain, reworking our website, are working with a designer for our official rebrand, rewriting our business plan, tossing out the old, and readying ourselves for a new year with a real, solid plan. I won't deny that we have let the universe direct us in the last 5 year in a way that we never took the reins. We never took control. And that's the worst. Constantly chasing the light at the end of the tunnel, rather than being the lantern that lights the way.
We didn't know what to expect when we moved back here 2 years ago, we certainly didn't expect to stay this long, and we are still planning on relocating to a place that better suits our needs, but being in North Florida the last 2 years, and this year to come, has been medicine. It was necessary. We needed to be re-inspired. And we did the roller coaster, but we understand now that we aren't just the original wood veneer sunglasses - but so much more. We make folk art - outsider art, wearable, functional pieces that reflect the world around us. And our current home, it has inspired the name change/reworking of our business. We're excited share more, but for now, just know that we're stoked. We have a lot of work to do in the next 3 weeks, but we are being the lantern. We are lighting the way.
